Born in Kassel (Germany), Martin Helmut Reis is Martin Reis is a documentary photographer at the intersection of activism and art.
His photojournalism work about the environmental group Extinction Rebellion will be prominently featured at the upcoming exhibition ‘Designing Peace’ at the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York this summer.
His artwork and performances have been featured on the CBC, CTV, Global, in Canadian, US & UK Film Festivals, Nuit Blanche (2008/2010/2012), and his photography has been published extensively in Brick, Canada’s premier literary journal.
Photographs have recently been exhibited and/or published at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal, the Graham Foundation in Chicago, the Luminato Festival and Crane Kalman Gallery in Brighton (UK).
His images have also been published in many magazines, newspapers and online including the CBC, Toronto Star, Toronto Life, Globe & Mail, NOW Magazine, National Post, Seattle Times, Huffington Post, Maclean’s, C Magazine, Art Press, VICE, BlogTO, Spacing, Streetartnews, Canadian Business Magazine and many more.
He is long-time member of the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ)
