This porcelain seed pod, created to carry the memory of my dear friend — artist, John Smialek, and coded with the characters of Romiette, his alphabet for a language not yet invented, serves, as seeds do, as a love letter to the future. Existing at the fulcrum between idea and expression, longing and fulfilment, the dead and the living, the seed inspires in me an exciting feeling of potential and is a fertile reminder of the Divine design within all things.
May this scarf sow the wisdom that everything you need is inside of you. Seek the light, trust the intelligence of Nature and the culmination of your unique efforts and experiences, so that your gifts may unfurl into the future with the vigour of life’s own longing for itself.
“There are a hundred thousand species of Love, separately invented, each more ingenious than the last, and every one of them keeps making things.”
– Richard Powers, The Overstory
I make things. I reify ideas with my hands. The daughter of an engineer and a ballerina, I have always been destined to dance the line between art and design. From my studio in an old stone house on the Niagara Escarpment, I create pots, sculpture, and custom lighting fixtures.
