Trying to see behind appearance, Simon Dann’s candid black and white portraits resonate with both tonal and psychological richness. The images form a visual testament to the sublime paradox of our unique stories on the one hand, and our shared humanity on the other. Thus, they provide at once a celebration of that shared humanity, as well as a penetrating glimpse into the myriad mysteries and complexities of the human condition.
Faces and postures can tell a life … a moment, a life and even a lie as the camera captures something fleeting, something that may or may not really be.

Simon Dann has been actively involved in photography since he was about 10 years old and enjoyed the art in photographing life around him and on his many travels. He had a first exhibition of photographs in 2018 and currently has work in private hands, in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, as well as the U.S., Germany, Australia and Hong Kong. His work is largely Black & White.
