A selection of vintage film collage by Hugo Cantin

As TIFF lights up the city, FilmFair Utopia offers an alternative glow: a parallel world of cinema, intimate and dreamlike.

Through his ongoing project Mini-Cinema, Hugo Cantin transforms fragments of old 16mm films into luminous collages within handcrafted light boxes.

This exhibition operates as a micro-archive, with each lightbox acting as a portal into the past. Viewers are invited to lean in, magnifying glasses in hand, to explore a private universe of miniature moving images, reclaimed from obsolescence and reimagined for the present.
