Mixed Media & Portfolio Primer is the perfect course for kids 9 to 13 years old interested in expanding their artistic horizons and rounding out their portfolios for arts-focused secondary school applications. Each session kicks off with a creative warm-up, and aims to instill studio best practices. The series will culminate in a Student Exhibition at Lyceum Gallery in the coming weeks.
Fees include all course materials. Students are encouraged to dress appropriately for getting messy and to bring a water bottle. We request no food items to be brought into class.

The students will be walked through collage examples, basic collage techniques, paper behavior and cutting safety. The students will be encouraged to bring in any materials they’d like to incorporate but will also have access to our robust trove of current and vintage papers.
Students will learn the simple yet effective (and incredibly satisfying!) method of making tape transfers and applying them to collage and painted pieces.
Students will build on the previous two workshops by combining collage, image transfer, simple paint techniques and a variety of supplemental media to create a mixed media piece.
In our final official class before the Student Exhibition, the class will get a primer on building a well-rounded portfolio for presentation, we’ll walk through the basic prep of a gallery exhibition including writing an artist statement, display cards and art prep, and students will be encouraged to bring their final projects in for help from the instructors and use of studio materials.
