The Lyceum’s Studio Sessions  is a 5-week course/art hang for anyone interested in art and making.

Studio Sessions covers a variety of mediums including mixed media, collage, basic hard-edge style painting, and fiber arts.  This course is a great way to try out a few different disciplines and hone some new skills, and meet like-minded makers in an informal, social setting.

Workshop Details

WEEK 1 — Tuesday, April 26, 2022
Collage

We will walk through collage examples, basic collage techniques, paper behavior, cutting safety and layout.  Students will have access to our robust trove of current and vintage papers.  We’ll make a small collage and personalize our course Inspiration books.

WEEK 2 — Tuesday, May 2, 2022
Image Transfer Method Basics & Mixed Media

This workshop explores various transfer methods including tape transfers and acrylic gel transfer techniques.  We’ll walk through various overlay methods and make tape transfers from a variety of papers.

WEEK 3 — Tuesday, May 9, 2022
Basic Acrylic Painting

In this session we’ll cover basic pop style painting techniques.  Using “Birds on a Wire” and “Planes”, we’ll learn to prep a wood gallery panel, use templates and tape out our images, and use hard edge and basic blend techniques.

WEEK 4 — Tuesday, May 16, 2022
Latch Hook

In this workshop we switch gears to soft goods.  Using latch-hook, the most basic rug-making technique, you will learn to use cutting guides to make your own latch hook yarn, use a variety materials with different lengths and textures and will learn to design, prep and edge a latch hook canvas.

WEEK 5 — Tuesday, May 23, 2022
Felting

Felt is an incredibly durable and versatile material. In this class, we will learn the arts of dry and wet felting — turning combed roving into sheets of felt using a wet felting process. We will also learn to dry felt patterns wool patches using a barbed needle.
